Character Analyst

• Katniss

  • Katniss is the main character in all three of the books in the Hunger Games Trilogy. She has many unique characteristics and demonstrates them throughout the books.

• Katniss absolutely loves her sister, and that love gives her strength and courage for all of the hard situations during the Games.

  • From the very beginning, we find Katniss already thinking about her little sister, Prim, as she wakes up early in the morning on the day of the reaping.

• She thinks before she acts.

  • She questions all of Peeta's actions. For example, when Peeta compliments her on her firey outfit, she feels warmth rush through, her but then she reminds herself that she thinks that he is forming a plan to make it easier for him to kill her. When I feel that he just complimented her out of his love for her.

  • Taking care of Prim has always been her priority. Therefore, she always thinks about her actions and how it will affect her family. For example, when she keeps the fact that her mom did not find a job after their father's death a secret because if it became known that she did not find a job, they would send Prim and her to a community home and "the commmunity home would crush her [Prim] like a bug."

    • I feel like her trust issues started at the age of eleven, when her father died. Her dad was the only person she felt comfortable around. When he died, her mom went into a depression and zoned out completely, leaving Katniss and her sister to fend for themselves.

    • Katniss lost complete faith and trust towards her mother. Katniss shows her distrust towards others during the preparation for the game

  • Sometimes does not think of all the possibilities and acts before

    • after Peeta announces his love for her, and she shoves him without knowing his reasons

  • Stubborn

  • Does not open up/let people get to know her

    • has trouble opening up during her interview practices with Haymitch

    • does not have a lot of friends at school

• Peeta's Weaknesses

  • Is not nature smart

  • Cannot handle weapons to well

  • cannot read people as well as Katniss

    • does not realize connection between Haymitch and Katniss

    • does not see that Katniss is just acting in love

• the fact that Katniss could die gave Peeta strength to fight off Cato and fight to live

• the fact that Peeta could die if Katniss dies gave strength to Katniss to keep on fighting in the Hunger Games

• the fact that Katniss grew up without a lot of food did not make her dependant on the food of Cornucopia like the Careers and made her strong and know how to be hungry
