Uprising/rebellion- An act of resistance or rebellion; a revolt: "an armed uprising".
Quell-to vanquish; subdue this has two meanings, first, the purpose of the Quarter Quell, is to remind the districts of the capitols supreme power by creating an extreme form of the games, and to put down any rebellious thoughts in the Districts, basically to quell their hunger for rebellion.
Security
Spark- An incandescent particle, especially: One resulting from friction. Katniss is this spark; she causes the friction that can cause an inferno.
Inferno- A large fire that is dangerously out of control. Snow tells Katniss she could start an inferno from her spark, whether an inferno will be a good thing or a bad thing in the districts, it has yet to be seen
Omnipotence-is unlimited power, When President Snow knows exactly going on in district 12, Katniss feels his omnipotence
Peacekeeper- One who keeps peace, in the book the peacekeepers may not always keep the peace but they stop rebellions
Coup de tat- (French) strike (against the) state, literally: strike/blow of state
Chaff- the husks of grains and grasses that are separated during threshing. This is important because once again, we see Collins naming the characters with some other meaning or clue to what they do in their districts
Seeder- A tool used to spread seeds. This is most likely because she is from the agricultural distinct along with chaff
Wiress- coming from district three along with Beetee, she is a whiz with electronics and is extremely smart, which is where we see the origins of her name: wiress. She acts as the canary in a coalmine for the rest of Katniss' group.

Loyalty/Trust- an idea that is repeatedly brought up throughout the book, it seems as if this is one of Katniss' main issues. Trusting people and being loyal is important in this book because the tributes must decide who the enemy is, each other or the capitol. Allies are formed through trust and loyalty, Haymitch is loyal to his tribute friends so he automatically wishes Katniss and Peeta to be friends with them. When Finnick shows Katniss his Mockingjay bracelet, Loyalty/trust is forced upon Katniss and she must argue with herself over how to deal with the situation. If there were no trust in the Arena, how would the tributes be able to pull off an extreme plot to foil the 75th Hunger Games?
Who Is The Enemy? - When the Tributes join hands, or talk bad about the games, we begin to see an inkling of hope for the districts. The players are realizing that the goal is not to fight each other but the feared Capitol. If the Capitol did not exist, there would be no need for this yearly bloodbath anyway. Peeta has realized this from the beginning; back before the first games and it took Katniss all the way until during this book to figure out it was the Capitol who she should be fighting.
Manipulation- President Snow is a master of manipulation. He visits Katniss solely to intimidate her into trying to quell her spark from the previous games. His manipulation is why Katniss went back into the arena, he needed a clever way to kill the "girl who is on fire" without starting an outright rebellion. Therefore, Snow decides to send Katniss back and just let her be killed off because the odds will not be ever in her favor this time around. Also when Snow assigns Darius to Katniss' room as an avox and when he has Cinna beaten before the games are a way of hurting Katniss emotionally, manipulating how she will play in the games.
Courage-
Nearly all the characters in Catching Fire are brave or show bravery. Katniss and Peeta are ready to die for each other and are always thinking ahead to how they will have to act in order to protect his or her better half. Mags and Wiress give up their lives to protect the others by singing or realizing what is at stake. Johanna calls the Capitol out, and she and Finnick risk their lives to save Peeta and Katniss and finally Cinna puts his life on the line to give Katniss a costume that will further incite the rebellion. All of these and many more show courage in the book.
